In the early 1800’s the Ulrich family started a company which would come to be known today as Stabila. In 1851 while watching a carpenter devise a yardstick Anton Ulrich came up with a method for joining sections of a yardstick together. In 1886 a spring joint was added which is still recognized today as the industry standard for hinged rulers. Now almost 200 years later Stabila produces a wide range of measuring tools: spirit levels, electronic levels, magnetic levels, torpedo levels, mason and pocket levels; self-leveling lasers, mechanical lasers, laser distance measuring devices and their accessories; tape measures in both U.S. and metric; and their trademark folding rulers.
